2008 Chicago Golden Gloves Semifinals. Avila (in black and white) won 139-lb SN division title, now fights professionally out of Chicago. Only the first two rounds could be uploaded.
A very late followup after rereading your comment: Tutorials and lectures: Yes, I have been thinking about doing just that. I have access to some nice technology that some folks are developing that's a major improvement over webcams. Your image is superimposed over a background of your choosing while you talk AND, if you choose -- here's the good part -- manipulate your PowerPoints, videos, or any other imagery your computer screen can produce. You have to see it to get the full picture (ha ha). I'm thinking of starting by doing a practice-film of my upcoming talk at the Crime, Media, Pop Culture Studies conference at Indiana State in September, then my favorite classroom lecture, "On 'Being on Paper'," then rest of my old conference paper-presentations, and, finally, classroom lectures. I was planning this for my own website(s), but it would be great to post any of them on CT instead (and, for my own sites, just have the link direct to CT).
Aye, they trained me as a UCLA-style phenomenologist, which does NOT mean you must do your activity under study. But it is one expedient method of grasping the bodily, sensual, lived-reality and practicality. It gave me great appreciation for true boxing athletes. Lesser so for the guys who broke my arm in the photos added today. But I never held a grudge.
Great stuff, Curtis. This shows what can be done with videos here at Crimetalk. I wonder if one day we'll all e brave enough to put up tutorials like this? Or lectures?
