Why do legal systems regulate undercover policing so differently? Before researching the American situation, I’m curious to learn where the UK stands. Do police and private actors enjoy the same latitude undercover? Is there a UK equivalent to the US public authority defense, protecting undercover agents from being prosecuted either as accessories in the crimes they investigate or as principals in the crimes they commit?
