One major danger in a very privatized healthcare system is of over-billing and fraudulent charging. In this article from his blog Facts for Working People, Richard Mellor notes the officially recognized existence, in the US, of systematic theft [from Medicare] by greedy healthcare companies. The Department of Justice has just agreed a $65 million settlement with one company. It seems business will bleed the public sector dry when and where it can - that has been my experience and again I feel the new political mantra for the 21st century should be Protect us from Business.
